A recent article featured in the “Wall Street Journal” spotlights the agency formed by the United Nations to protect new ideas and inventions world wide.  It is known as the World Intellectual Property Organization.  The purpose of this agency is to find a way to provide a balanced and accessible Intellectual Property system.  It is necessary for this system to protect the public interest without interfering with economic development, innovation, and creativity.  Basically the protection is needed for the person or company who is responsible for the new product or process.  This protection is necessary to keep someone else from taking credit or profiting from another’s idea and promote an atmosphere of fairness.
